Paper cutting is one of the most popular folk art. according to archaeology, has been dating back to the sixth century AD, but people think its actual start time even earlier than that for hundreds of years. Paper-cut was commonly used in religious ceremonies such as decorative and plastic arts.

     In the past,  paper was often made in the objects of various shapes and figuress and buried with the deceased or the funeral of burning.This practice sometimes could still be seen outside China. Art of symbolic significance generally is part of this ceremony. Paper-cut ancestors and the gods were also used as a sacrificial offerings of decoration used.
     Now,   Paper-cut  was more used  for decoration .  It can be used for decorating walls 、windows、rooms and mirrors. Besides ,lamps and lanterns can also be used as a decoration for the gift, or even paper-cut itself as a gift to others.  The previous paper-cut art  was also used for embroidery and painting models.
     In rural areas, paper-cuts are often made by women or girls . In the past, this is every girls' must  do things and also it's a standard to judge the bride whether she is Virtuous or not.  But the paper-cut artist occupations are often  occupied by men, because only men can join in the workshops of labor and earn wages.
