First of all, New year is a time for families to honor Gods and their ancesters. The honoring of gods begins with the kitchen god who is usually honored on 23th, the twelfth month of the lunar calendar. It is said that on that day, The kitchen god is sopposed to report a whole year's condition about a specific family to the Jade Rmperor. Therefore,people decide to bribe the kitchen in the hope that he will only tell the bright and good things about their family. Thus they made Tanggua,a kind of sugar, as sacrifice to the kitchen god.
